Report: Arsenal rival AC Milan for Sporting Lisbon gem Nuno Mendes
Arsenal are battling AC Milan to complete the signing of Sporting Lisbon youngster Nuno Mendes,
The 18-year-old is attracting interest despite making just nine appearances in the first-team for the Liga NOS outfit.
Typically a left-back, Mendes is very much in the modern-day mould of playing on the left-hand side of a back four.
He is quick, loves to get forward and can also play in a more advanced role if asked to do so.

The highly-rated teenager has a release clause in his contract of £40 million and that highlights how much is rated by his current club.
AC Milan have already entered into discussions with Sporting Lisbon, offering £13 million, plus a series of add ons to try and obtain his services.
It’s thought that the initial advance was rejected and it could take a far higher bid to prise him away from the Portuguese capital.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has enjoyed success with the club’s younger talents since taking over as the Gunners boss in November.
The likes of Kieran Tierney, Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah have all been handed the platform to shine in the first-team during his tenure.
It doesn’t look as though Arsenal will get Mendes on the cheap but he seems a nice fit with the ethos in place at the Emirates Stadium.
TBR View – One to keep an eye on but Mendes not an immediate priority for Arsenal
The Gunners are thought to be trying to raise money to sign Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey this summer.

With that in mind, it does seem unlikely they will part with potentially £20 million for a talented youngster.
Mendes is certainly one to keep an eye on for Arsenal though, with the teenager likely to gain more first-team football in Portugal this season.
The risk is that a good full season in men’s football might tempt Lisbon into handing him a new deal and raising the release clause in his contract.
Arsenal still have some gaps to plug in their first-team squad though and as a result, Mendes should remain one to watch, rather than one to immediately land.
