Report suggests Arsenal have pocketed £2.3m from Jeff Reine-Adelaide’s move to Lyon

Angers SCO have sold midfielder Jeff Reine-Adelaide just one year after his arrival. , Lyon have reached an agreement to sign Reine-Adelaide for £23m, subject to a medical and Arsenal have also been given a chance to re-sign him first.

But this deal should go ahead and Arsenal will receive some windfall. The Gunners have a 10 per cent sell-on clause, , so they will receive £2.3m from this transfer.

Reine-Adelaide left Arsenal last summer after struggling to break into the side. The France U21 starlet rose through the ranks at Lens and made a big move to Arsenal. But he only made eight first-team appearances before leaving.

Last summer, Arsenal sold the 21-year-old to Angers after a successful half-season loan spell with the Ligue 1 club. In 47 games, Reine-Adelaide scored four goals and provided four assists, including a goal and an assist in his only game this season.

But Angers have lost their star midfielder to Lyon in a £23m deal. Reine-Adelaide will feature in a midfield which lost Tanguy Ndombele to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer.

TBR’s view

While the £2.3m fee received is a nice mini boost for Arsenal’s coffers, you can’t help but feel that this is an opportunity missed. If Arsenal had waited one more year, Reine-Adelaide would have either been ready for first-team action or a more expensive player.

Arsenal sold Reine-Adelaide for just £1.3m () last summer. After one good season in Ligue 1, the youngster is worth over £20m more than that. Arsenal could be pocketing that extra cash – rather than just £2.3m – or using Reine-Adelaide in their midfield ranks.
