Report: Arsenal put off by £60m Diego Carlos price, Arteta lines up Malang Sarr as second option

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will move for defender, Malang Sarr, this summer if the Gunners fail in their pursuit of Sevilla star, Diego Carlos.

According to , Carlos is the number one target for the Arsenal boss this summer. However, his release clause of around £60m is proving problematic for the Gunners.

Arteta, then, has apparently identified Sarr as their second-choice should Carlos remain in Seville. Back in July, the same linked Sarr with Arsenal following his impending release from Nice.

The 21-year-old has already racked up over 100 career appearances and has caught the eye of the French national set up, having already appeared eight times for the under-21s.

A big move is certainly on the table for Sarr this summer, then. And that move could end up being a Premier League one, with Arteta ready to pounce if he misses out on Carlos.

While it’s all well and good signing up and coming players with potential, Arsenal already have a number of squad members in that ilk.

So, while Sarr would represent a smart capture, the signing of Diego Carlos would still have more of an immediate impact.

The Brazilian is one of the most consistent and well-respected defenders in Europe. At 27, he’s into his prime years and would slot straight into proceedings at The Emirates.

Sarr, then, while being a smart signing for Arteta, would not be expected to quite have the same impact as the Sevilla star.
