In fact, talks have apparently taken place over a move, with Arsenal interested in swap deals. And it was suggested that the likes of Depay, Riqui Puig and Neto were all mentioned in discussions.

on these talks. And they have reported that the Dutch forward would be the name Arsenal would be most interested in should a swap for Gabriel start to look possible.

It is probably not a huge surprise. Reports from last week suggested that Arsenal have registered an interest in the forward, who has struggled for game-time a little more since Xavi came in.

His record since moving to the Nou Camp is impressive. But a swap deal involving Gabriel and Depay is unlikely to go down well with supporters.

Arsenal fans unlikely to accept swap deal involving Gabriel and Depay

Depay has been outstanding since leaving the Premier League. And he is at the peak of his powers right now, having been described as ‘‘. However, a swap would not sit right with many.

Depay is out of contract at the end of next season. And he has struggled with injury. So he may not cost an enormous amount, particularly now that he has lost his place.

Gabriel meanwhile, is a player who has shone in the Premier League. And he should only get better in the years to come. It would baffle many if Arsenal now let him leave.

Of course, there will be a price that the Gunners would probably accept. But given how highly the supporters rate him, it seems highly unlikely that Barcelona will offer the sort of fee – along with Depay – that makes them feel that Arsenal are getting a good deal.
