Report: Arsenal managerial target Max Allegri to wait until the summer
Supposed Arsenal managerial target Max Allegri has confirmed his intention to wait until the summer before taking a new job.
The 52-year-old former Juventus manager is understood to be on the Gunners’ shortlist of names to replace the departed Unai Emery ().
Allegri left the Italian champions over the summer after winning his fifth straight Scudetto, with Maurizio Sarri succeeding him in Turin.
, Allegri said when asked about returning to management: “In June. I don’t know if you can call it a sabbatical or not. Giovanni [Branchini] and I immediately came to that decision.
“As soon as the relationship with Juventus came to an end the decision was to take a year out.”
His comments perhaps come at the wrong time for many Arsenal supporters, who watched as their side were beaten 2-1 at home by Brighton on Thursday.
The club are now winless in nine games in all competitions.
TBR’s view – Struggling Arsenal may not wait
If Arsenal continue their poor form under interim boss Freddie Ljungberg, then it only decrease the likelihood of them getting Allegri – who has also won league titles with AC Milan in 2011 and Sassuolo in 2008 (Serie C1).
It is probable that the board will move quickly to get someone in permanently, if Allegri really does want to wait until the summer.
And that would be a shame, because Allegri – viewed by many as one of the game’s most tactically aware coaches – has the winning mentality Arsenal lack.
