Report: Arsenal made move to sign ‘frightening’ midfielder at the very last minute, but there’s a problem

Mikel Arteta’s side have had a very successful transfer window up to this point.

The signing of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City has revolutionised Arsenal’s attack.

Oleksandr Zinchenko has also looked like a brilliant addition, with one pundit saying he’s been a better addition than Jesus.

Matty Turner provides important cover in goal, while Fabio Vieira and Marquinhos are excellent long-term prospects.

Arsenal now face a small injury crisis in central midfield that could derail their perfect start.

Thomas Partey missed the visit of newly promoted Fulham on Saturday, and is unavailable for tonight’s match against Aston Villa.

Mohamed Elneny is now also unavailable, leaving Mikel Arteta short of midfield options.

This has forced Arteta’s hand, forcing Arsenal to make a last-minute move for another midfielder.

Arsenal made last-minute move for midfielder

The 32-year-old Senegalese international has been made available by the French champions this summer.

The ‘frightening’ defensive midfielder has plenty of Premier League experience after a three-year spell with Everton.

And it’s the Toffees that have caused Arsenal’s last-minute bid for Gueye to fail.

Although on the face of it, Gueye choosing to join Everton over Arsenal is a blow to Arteta’s side.

However, Everton have been working on this deal for some time now, and it would have taken possibly paying over the odds to change Gueye’s mind.

Arsenal have already turned their attention to another target, with a Brazilian midfielder now on their mind.
