Report: Arsenal-linked gem loved by Messi and Guardiola set for sale, £10m off price tag

A player reportedly on the radar of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is set to be put up for sale by his club amid potential financial difficulties, according to

Houssem Aouar has been a star for Ligue 1 side Lyon over the last three years, becoming one of the top young midfielders in Europe during his time with the French outfit.

Despite being just 21, Aouar has clocked up an impressive 133 senior appearances for Lyon, with under his belt already.

This season, the France Under-21 ace – valued at $66million (around £53million) by in December – made 37 appearances for Lyon, scoring nine goals and claiming seven assists.

The claimed in February that the Lyon midfielder has admirers at Arsenal, and is one of a number of names that could be targeted this summer by the Gunners as Arteta looks to reshape his team, but Liverpool have also been linked with his services.

According to , Lyon could put Aouar up for sale, with a £43million price tag – £10million cheaper than the Business Insider report – due to the fact that they have missed out entirely on Europe this season, in wake of the Ligue 1 campaign being halted with most teams on 28 games.

The final Ligue 1 standings were based on an average of points earned per matches played, with Lyon finishing seventh.

Aside from his impressive stats, Aouar has also been spoken of very highly in footballing circles for a number of years now.

The France Under-21 international has been highly praised by Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola, who told : “He is incredible.”

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi wrote about Aouar: “He is always calm with the ball at his feet with an excellent technical quality”. (Topps Champions League cards, quoted by )

Therefore, Lyon’s potential need to sell one of their key assets at a seemingly reduced price could be Arsenal’s gain, but Liverpool won’t be an easy side to lock horns with over his signature.
