Report: Arsenal join Newcastle and Barcelona in race for soon-to-be free agent

Arsenal as a contender to sign Marseille talent Boubacar Kamara, joining Newcastle in the race to sign the soon-to-be free agent. Barcelona, Milan and Juventus are also suggested as possible suitors.

Kamara, 22, has already clocked up 141 senior appearances for Marseille despite his tender age. Able to play as a centre-back or a holding midfielder, he starred under the stewardship of Andre Villas-Boas.

This season, Kamara remains a crucial part of Jorge Sampaoli’s side – even captaining Marseille on one occasion. Alongside Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba, Kamara has been impressive in midfield.

But he is out of contract at the end of the season. Jeunes Footeux state he is unlikely to sign a new deal. It means he could be available on the cheap in January, or on a free. His deal ends in June.

The report states Arsenal are one of five interested clubs in his services, with Newcastle another – although previously linked. Barcelona, Milan and Juventus are the three others trailing Kamara.

Kamara to Arsenal: Do Gunners need Frenchman in midfield?

While Mikel Arteta has five central midfielders to choose from, six including Martin Odegaard, Kamara might be necessary on a free, next summer. Mo Elneny is out of contract, like Kamara, in June.

Not only that, but Ainsley Maitland-Niles has been linked with a move. Granit Xhaka came close to joining Roma last summer. Thomas Partey and Elneny will be at AFCON. Kamara would be a good signing, with cover needed.
