Report: Arsenal have now launched another bid for ‘very good’ player, waiting for club’s response right now

Arsenal have launched their second transfer bid for Ajax and Argentina central defender Lisandro Martinez.

report that Arsenal’s initial bid for Martinez was around £29 million and was immediately rejected by the Dutch champions.

That has seen the Gunners up their offer to £35 million as they have made Martinez their priority defensive target this summer.

They are now waiting for a response and will be hoping that the bid is not dismissed out of hand again.

Arsenal make second bid for Martinez

Mikel Arteta did a lot of work on his defence last summer, when Ben White was his big central defensive investment, with Aaron Ramsdale silencing a lot of doubters behind him.

William Saliba will return to add defensive depth, and it seems that Martinez would round off their options, adding balance as a left-footer.

Martinez can also play at left-back and that seems to be coming into Arsenal’s thinking, with Nuno Tavares potentially leaving on loan.

The defender has been hailed as by South American football expert Tim Vickery, and there is also interest from Manchester United.

Arsenal look to be trying to get ahead of United and Lisandro’s former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag in the transfer chase.

After landing Gabriel Jesus, they seem to be pushing ahead with other targets, with Raphinha of course also on their radar.

It remains to be seen if this second bid will be successful with the Gunners waiting for their response, with the defender himself keen to move to the Premier League.
