Report: Arsenal have made an attempt to sign ‘extraordinary’ defender, he’d be the tallest player at the club

The report suggests that Arsenal were among a number of clubs who made a bid for Milenkovic, including Juventus, Inter Milan and Sevilla.

Milenkovic signed for Fiorentina back in 2017 for £5m, and given how good he’s been since his arrival in Serie A five years ago, this looks like an absolute steal.

The ‘extraordinary’ Serbian defender went on to make his international debut the following summer and has already picked up 37 caps despite being just 24-years-old.

It now remains to be seen whether Arsenal will come back in with a repeat bid, after seeming seeing their first offer rejected.

Arsenal aren’t the only north London team linked with Milenkovic this summer, with Spurs also credited with an interest in the defender.

If Milenkovic was to move to the Emirates Stadium he would immediately come into the club as the tallest player there, adding to their aerial presence.

At 6ft 5inches, Milenkovic is a real threat in the air and he has always had a decent scoring for Fiorentina. .

Arsenal made offer to sign centre-back Milenkovic

Prior to Arsenal’s opening win against Crystal Palace, Gunners fans might have been anxious if Arteta didn’t bring in another centre-back.

There were concerns that before pulling off a brilliant man-of-the-match performance, William Saliba’s Arsenal career may not work out as expected.

Pablo Mari also looks set to leave the club, and with doubts over whether Rob Holding is really good enough for Arsenal, Arteta’s side would have looked very short of quality.

However, many of those fears would have subsided after Friday night’s victory, even if it’s too soon to reach conclusions about a squad after just one match.

If Milenkovic remains at Fiorentina this summer and doesn’t sign a new deal, then Arsenal may still be tempted to offer the World Cup-bound defender a contract in January.
