Report: Arsenal edge closer to making Markus Schubert their first summer signing
Arsenal are reportedly close to bringing in their first summer signing. , Markus Schubert is on the verge of completing his move to Arsenal.
Schubert currently plays for Dynamo Dresden, who finished 12th in the German second-tier last season. He is a highly-rated young modern goalkeeper, who is said to be good with the ball at his feet.
But Dynamo Dresden look set to lose him for nothing. Schubert is closing in on a free transfer to Arsenal, where he will strengthen the goalkeeping department.

Petr Cech has retired and David Ospina is ready to leave permanently, leaving Arsenal short in this position. Bernd Leno is the number one option at The Emirates but he needs a back-up stopper.
But Schubert is not expected to be the immediate second-choice at Arsenal. The Gunners are already looking to loan him out. They have contacted clubs in Europe and the Championship hoping to find a loan suitor.
The 21-year-old may be on the verge of joining Arsenal but it looks like he will have to wait until the 2020/21 season for his debut.
TBR’s view
With Cech retiring, Arsenal needed a new goalkeeper. And this is the sensible solution – to bring in a promising young stopper who will compete with Leno in the long run.
Despite his young age, Schubert has already played 43 senior games for Dynamo Dresden, keeping 12 clean sheets. The Germany U21 starlet has a lot of potential to become a top goalkeeper so Arsenal fans can get excited about this one – but for the future, rather than the present.
