Report: Arsenal decided £12m player wasn’t good enough technically for them, Tottenham apparently want him now
Arsenal and Tottenham have held an interest in England international goalkeeper Nick Pope and he could move this summer.
Burnley are facing the very real prospect of relegation after Sean Dyche’s shock sacking and if that happens, Pope would likely move on.
The World Cup is later this year and Pope surely needs to be playing regular football if he is to be included in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad.
The report that West Ham could swoop for the Englishman if Burnley go down and that he would cost around £12 million.
They also say that Arsenal decided he was not technically good enough for them, and went on to sign Aaron Ramsdale of course.
Spurs are still credited with an interest, as they look for a backup goalkeeper for Hugo Lloris ahead of Antonio Conte’s first summer in charge.
West Ham would likely offer him a greater prospect of first team football, with Lukasz Fabianski’s contract due to expire at the end of the season.
That said, Spurs do need someone who can replace Lloris long term and are eventually going to need someone who can push him really hard?
Is Pope technically lacking? Burnley’s style of play makes it hard to judge, but he has not looked short of the standard for England when he plays, and Southgate does like playing out from the back where possible.
