Report: Arsenal dealt blow in pursuit of 23-year-old Klopp once called a ‘very interesting player’
Sander Berge is not currently pushing for a move away from Sheffield United amid interest from Arsenal, per .
The Blades are braced for offers for their prized assets after being relegated from the Premier League. They will not accept any bids below his £35million release clause, though, as Bramall Lane figures feel they signed him cheaply.
Sheffield United paid Genk £22m for Berge in January last year, but believe he was worth much more and has only increased his value since. And in a blow for Arsenal, the Championship club feel no pressure from the players’ camp to sell.
Instead, Berge will be 100 per cent committed to the Sheffield United cause if he lines up for the opening day of the Championship season in August. He will not demand a move away, nor will he kick up a fuss if a move falls through.
The Blades had hoped to convince Berge to ignore interest from Arsenal to stay for at least one more season. The South Yorkshire outfit want the 23-year-old to play a key role in their promotion bid.
Berge only has eyes for what he can control on the pitch, which currently does not include joining Arsenal. Instead, he will cut short his summer to work with a personal trainer to be in the best shape for pre-season at Sheffield United.
The Gunners are yet to make an offer for Berge, but he is highly rated at the Emirates Stadium. His name features on Edu’s shortlist of summer targets, while Mikel Arteta’s assistant Albert Stuivenberg is a big fan.
TBR’s view: Berge commitment more reason for Arsenal move
Berge has dealt Arsenal a blow by refusing to force through a move away from Sheffield United this summer. But his commitment and absolute dedication offers Arteta and Edu even more reason to pursue a deal.
The Gunners already value what he can bring to the engine room in north London. claimed they were interested in a move before he joined the Blades and have not taken a step back given his efforts in England since.
But Berge would also be the consummate professional, working endlessly to better himself and make it as an Arsenal player. note how he is always lauded by those at Bramall Lane for he is infatuated with the game. The midfielder also studies his own matches to spot areas where he can improve.
Jurgen Klopp also once told Berge, via , that he is a ‘very interesting player’ after facing his Genk side. But the midfielder deflected the attention toward his teammates, showing what type of person the 23-year-old already was.
