Report: Arsenal could now sign ‘extraordinary’ midfield target for £33m instead of £67m
Arsenal have been linked with Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta in recent weeks.
A month ago, CBS journalist Ben Jacobs claimed Mikel Arteta “really wants” the Brazil international.
However, Arsenal – and other suitors – were warned that Paqueta wouldn’t come cheap.

“It won’t be an easy negotiation with Lyon and Newcastle have enquired, too,” Jacobs told .
“Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is going to hold out for at least 55m.
“(He) even asked for closer to 70m back in January.”
And in July, suggested Lyon wanted €80m (£67m) for Paqueta.
But now, a report from claims the Ligue 1 outfit is willing to do business for pretty much half price.
The online outlet looked at Newcastle’s interest in the 24-year-old, as well as in Marseille forward Bamba Dieng.
‘Sources close to the situation have told 90min that Lyon are now ready to do business at around £33m with add-ons,’ wrote 90Min.
‘And that does appeal to Newcastle, who are adamant they will not go above their own valuation of any player, as they have already proven this summer.’
Arsenal have already bolstered their midfield ranks this summer by signing Fabio Vieira.
However, speculation persists regarding the Gunners’ interest in midfielders ahead of the closure of the transfer window.
For example, the Youri Tielemans to Arsenal saga is still going on.
As for Paqueta, he is is an “extraordinary” talent and, at £33m, he’d be a bargain.
At the same time, the Gunners have to be mindful of Newcastle’s interest in him.
And given Bruno Guimaraes is already at St James’ Park, that could prove significant in their pursuit of Paqueta.
So Arsenal need to decide soon whether to launch a bid for him.
