Report: Arsenal could make surprise decision on £22m-rated maestro

Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan could surprisingly earn himself a new contract at the Emirates Stadium but only on one condition,

The Armenian will be sent straight back out on loan, probably to Roma for a second spell. If he commits his future to Arsenal, however, a reduction in wages is likely to be a requirement.

Mkhitaryan has enjoyed a decent spell in Serie A with Paulo Fonseca’s team. He has scored six goals and registered four assists during his 20 appearances for the club.

The ex-Manchester United man is paid £180,000-a-week act that is likely to be reduced.

Arsenal have slapped a valuation on Mkhitaryan but Roma are unwilling to pay that amount for him.

Mino Raiola represents the man with 86 caps for his country and they believe this plan will help Roma take him on loan for a second spell next season.

Mkhitaryan never quite made the grade at Arsenal and when he wasn’t in form he was often injured.

He arrived as part of the deal that saw Alexis Sanchez join Manchester United but never really got going at Arsenal.

interestingly, Mikel Arteta has a desire to sign ball-playing midfielders in the summer (Express). That might suit Mkhitaryan and the Spaniard might use pre-season as a chance to have a look at the player.

The 31-year-old did actually play three games for the Gunners before joining Roma in September. He has made 59 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals and registering 13 assists.

His last outing for the Gunners came during a 2-2 draw with Tottenham and he’d surely relish another Premier League opportunity.

Decision

The player will have a decision to make though and at 31 time is running out for Mkhitaryan.

Arsenal handing him a contract on lower terms and loaning him back to Roma might be best for all parties.

Mkhitaryan continues playing first-team football; whilst Arsenal get some of his wages off the budget for Arteta to put back into the squad.

The situation surrounding the ex-Dortmund star looks set to be an interesting one.
