And it seems that Arsenal have quickly stepped up their interest. , they have already made contact with Wolves about a potential move.

Neves transfer would be huge statement of intent from Arsenal as contact is made

Bringing Neves in at the Emirates would be a superb way for Arsenal to bounce back from the disappointment of missing out on Buendia.

Buendia looks to be an outstanding talent. And Mikel Arteta’s men surely need to strengthen in that area behind the striker.

But it also looks imperative that they get better in the middle of the park.

Neves has proved to be a superb signing for Wolves. And at 24, there is still scope for the Portuguese to improve further.

Arsenal already have a brilliant midfielder in Thomas Partey. He is one of the players Arteta can really build the side around in the coming years.

And placing Neves – who earns £50,000-a-week, – alongside him could prove to be a masterstroke.

After missing out on Buendia, Arsenal fans will probably refuse to get carried away until Neves is stood at the side of the Emirates pitch holding a shirt.

But it is an encouraging sign that they have now made contact about a potential move.
