The Portugal international has rebuilt his career while in France, helping the club win the Ligue 1 title last year.

One of his latest international displays prompted plenty of Arsenal fans to insist that they would love to see him brought in.

And within days, it was being reported in France that the Gunners want the 24-year-old, who was valued at £30 million in the summer. But it was also suggested that they were facing a battle with AC Milan for his signature.

However, the Rossoneri may struggle to compete. that they consider his asking price prohibitive. It is claimed that they would need a big discount to strike a deal.

That obviously opens the door for Arsenal. The Gunners have previously shown that they are not afraid to part with major sums to bring their targets to the Emirates.

Sanches could be yet another exciting signing from Arsenal

Milan may well still attempt to bring Sanches to San Siro. But Arsenal must surely now be favourites.

It does appear that Mikel Arteta does need further reinforcements in midfield.

Granit Xhaka has certainly improved. And Ainsley Maitland-Niles appears to have handed his Emirates career a lifeline.

But adding more quality to go alongside the likes of Thomas Partey and Albert Sambi Lokonga would be a boost.

And Sanches’ form in the last couple of years suggests that he could prove to be a superb addition.

Arsenal now need to capitalise.
