Report: Arsenal board split on signing player also reportedly eyed by Spurs

that the Arsenal board are split on signing Lyon ace Houssem Aouar. The Frenchman was the subject of a bid from the Gunners during the last summer window. This time around, some are still keen but others are against a move. Aouar is now being linked with Tottenham.

Aouar, 23, threw himself onto Arsenal’s radar last summer after a 2019-20 season in which he had a hand in 19 goals during 41 games from midfield. Scoring in the Champions League too, the Gunners were desperate to sign him. But they failed to do so. Now, that interest is said to have wained.

That is because The Athletic claim that while some Arsenal board members would still like to sign Aouar, some have changed their mind. There is a split at board level. Meanwhile, that Tottenham are leading Arsenal in the race for Aouar – who could go for just £17million.

Who needs Lyon ace Aouar more – Tottenham or Arsenal?

At £17million, he is a brilliant buy for either club. Still young but with enormous experience – 170 appearances for Hugo Lloris’ old club – Aouar is a bargain. Arsenal could really do with him, with numerous midfielders leaving. Loans for Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard have ended.

Matteo Guendouzi has left permanently, Granit Xhaka is expected to join Roma and Lucas Torreira could also go. Arsenal need not just one midfielder, but two or three. Tottenham could also do with him, but Arsenal certainly need him more than Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
