Report: Arsenal are now winning the race to sign winger with £60m release clause
Arsenal are leading the race for Pepe of Porto ahead of another important window for Mikel Arteta in north London, according to reports from Portugal.
claim that the Gunners are clearly in front in the chase for the winger, although they face competition from within the Premier League.
Crystal Palace are also reportedly keen, so two former Arsenal midfield generals in Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta could go head to head in the transfer market for Pepe.
The money being talked about in the report could well be beyond Palace, unless they make a major sale in the forthcoming window.

Arsenal leading race for Pepe
Their report reads: “Pepe saw his price skyrocket in England, even being considered a new Luis Diaz.
“Arsenal are at the top of the list of suitors, where Crystal Palace also appear.
“The player is protected by a release clause worth €70 million (£59.8 million), club president Pinto da Costa ‘admits’ making a discount.
“That means Porto could let him go for between €50 million (£42.7 million) and €60 million (£51.3 million), plus performance bonuses.”

Do Arsenal need another wideman? Perhaps Pepe fits the bill in terms of a versatile forward who can play a number of different roles.
Getting Pepe and his countryman Gabriel Jesus would give Arsenal’s frontline a facelift, especially if he replaced his namesake Nicolas in the Gunners’ ranks.
Diaz has come in and had a huge impact and if Pepe can do the same in terms of his tenancy, versatility and swagger, it would give Arsenal a boost.
