Report: Arsenal and Newcastle want Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst

that both Arsenal and Newcastle United are interested in signing Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst this summer – after netting 20 goals throughout 2019-20.

Target man Weghorst, 27, has starred for Wolfsburg since joining the club in the summer of 2018. His first campaign saw the Netherlands international find the net 18 times in 36 games – while also laying on seven assists.

It has been a similar story this time around with 20 in 42 – creating five more. Bild claim both Premier League clubs are keen on the striker – who is renowned for his aerial ability, given he stands at a lofty 6ft 5in.

Wolfsburg value Weghorst at a whopping £32million and with both clubs likely to be in the market for a new striker this summer – especially if both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette leave Arsenal.

TBR’s view – Arsenal a better home for Weghorst

That is because Newcastle have just extended Andy Carroll’s contract by another 12 months. The Toon icon is an excellent target man and although Weghorst is in the form of his life, he is a replica of Carroll.

If the Toon were serious in signing a target man this summer – like Weghorst – then keeping Carroll would have been a mistake. So, a move to Arsenal is surely the better move, especially if the aforementioned duo depart.
