Report: Arsenal and Newcastle interested in Douglas Luiz
Arsenal and Newcastle United are both interested in signing Douglas Luiz, that the Aston Villa star has only one year left on his contract.
It has been a frustrating time for Villa thus far this season. Steven Gerrard’s side are languishing towards the bottom of the Premier League table after three defeats in four.
Luiz has only made one start so far. And it seems that his future could be somewhat uncertain in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

Reports earlier in the summer claimed that Newcastle want the £25.8 million-rated Brazil international. And the Daily Mail reports that the Magpies remain in the running for Luiz.
Meanwhile, Arsenal and Chelsea also want him, as do Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal’s interest in Luiz is probably not a huge surprise at all. He has been linked with a move to the Emirates in the past.
And their need for a new midfielder has ramped up in the last few days. They were already without Thomas Partey. And they have now lost Mohamed Elneny to injury.
It would be a gamble to let the window close without signing another midfielder. And Luiz would potentially be a smart addition given that his contract situation.
He has previously been labelled an ‘‘ player. And there is scope for Luiz to improve further. There is also the Brazilian connection at Arsenal which would make adapting to life at the Emirates easier.
With plenty of interest, it would perhaps not be a big surprise if Luiz does indeed move in the coming hours.
