Report: Arsenal and Manchester City want Velez Sarsfield star Thiago Almada

that both Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in signing Velez Sarsfield wonderkid Thiago Almada, and sign him for just £19.3million before August 31.

Almada, 19, has broken into the top-tier Argentine’s side of late – starring for Velez Sarsfield. This season, he has scored an impressive five goals in 25 appearances, despite being used out wide, in the 10 role and up front.

The report claims Arsenal, Manchester City and Atletico Madrid are keen on the Argentine Under-20 international – but they will have to move before August 31 to get Almada for £19.3million, or they will have to spend £22million to sign him.

However, Almada was later as saying that he is a fan of Manchester City and liked to watch Carlos Tevez – which may give the current Premier League champions the advantage in pursuit of the versatile attacker.

“I really like Manchester City, I looked at Carlos Tevez when he played on Saturday mornings,”

TBR’s view – A long-term Ozil replacement?

Naturally an attacking midfielder but with the pace and eye for goal to play out wide and up front, Almada could be a long-term replacement for Ozil – with the German linked with leaving the club given his enormous contract.

Arsenal need a player that can combine the midfield and attack, while also boasting cover on the flanks would be ideal. Though young and unproven, Almada is showing enormous potential. He could be an unearthed gem for Arsenal.
