Report: Arsenal and Liverpool accelerate interest in Cody Gakpo

Arsenal and Liverpool have accelerated their interest in signing Cody Gakpo with PSV Eindhoven potentially prepared to let him move on this summer, .

Gakpo has enjoyed a real breakout campaign with PSV. He has scored 16 goals and contributed 15 assists in all competitions. The large majority of his appearances have come from the left of the forward line.

Reports in January claimed that Arsenal could make a late move for the 22-year-old as a possible replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Of course, Aubameyang would leave. However, Mikel Arteta is yet to land a replacement for the Gabon international. And Arsenal fans are expecting some exciting moves this summer.

that Gakpo extended his contract until 2026 around a similar time he was linked with Arsenal. But, while he does not have a release clause, PSV understand that he expects to go if a suitable offer comes in.

And that has put several sides on alert. The Athletic suggests that Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have all now accelerated their interest in Gakpo.

The report adds that the asking price could potentially be as high as £42 million. But offers of £35 million are being discussed amongst his admirers.

Signing Gakpo ahead of Liverpool would be huge statement from Arsenal

Arsenal may fancy their chances of springing a surprise. They are surely underdogs against the likes of Liverpool and Bayern.

However, both clubs have an amazing group of attacking players. Arsenal meanwhile, can potentially offer Gakpo a prominent role almost immediately.

He would certainly be an exciting signing. Gakpo can play almost anywhere across the forward line. And he has been absolutely lethal this season.
