He struggled to establish himself in the Saints side during his first year. And then he spent two seasons out on loan with Celtic.

He scored 25 times for the Hoops. But there were some mixed opinions amongst the fans about whether the Bhoys needed to pursue a permanent deal in the summer.

Nevertheless, he has come back into the fold for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side. And he has featured in six of their opening Premier League games this term.

And he appears to have done enough to have caught the eye of Arsenal and Leicester. that both clubs now want the Norwegian.

It is noted that he is now approaching the last 18 months of his contract on the south coast. So he is seen as a potential cut-price option.

Could Odegaard press Arsenal to push for Elyounoussi transfer?

Of course, there would be a couple of familiar faces alongside Elyounoussi if he joined Arsenal.

He played alongside Cedric Soares at Southampton. But he knows another player very well.

Elyounoussi and Martin Odegaard have played together for Norway on many occasions.

So that could be a potential partnership to look out for should the 27-year-old join Mikel Arteta’s men.

It will probably seem an underwhelming option to plenty of Leicester and Arsenal fans. Elyounoussi is yet to really catch fire in the Premier League.

But if someone like Odegaard recommends a deal, the Gunners may certainly want to look into it.
