Report: Antonio Conte joins Leeds in race for midfielder, £30m needed

that Serie A champions Inter Milan have joined the race to sign Cagliari star Nahitan Nandez this summer – just days after it was claimed in Italy that Leeds had reignited their interest.

Nandez, 25, has enjoyed another decent season in Italian football since completing a move from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2019. However, Cagliari have not mirrored his form, currently in the midst of a relegation battle.

The chance to join the champions of the same league will prove tempting, then. Inter were confirmed as champions over the weekend, and CalcioMercato claim Antonio Conte wants the Uruguay international with the Nerrazzuri.

Roma are also keen despite rumours regarding the future of manager Paulo Fonseca – and it is claimed Nandez will cost £30million. Just last week, Leeds still want Nandez, after initial links last summer.

TBR’s view – The chance to join Inter over Leeds will be tantalising

Champions League football, working under Antonio Conte and alongside stars such as Romelu Lukaku, Christian Eriksen and plenty more – Inter will prove tempting for Nandez. But Leeds might still be his best move this summer.

That is because of the competition for places at Inter. Nandez has only ever known being first choice at Boca and Cagliari, and being a squad player will surely interrupt his development.

Roberto Gagliardini, Matias Vecino, Stefano Sensi, Arturo Vidal, Eriksen, Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic are options in the middle of the park. Joining Inter would see his game time reduce – but that is not the case at Leeds.
