Report: ‘Amazing’ injured Tottenham player may now not play again until 2023

Tottenham Hotspur defender Ben Davies may be sidelined for up to four weeks with an injury he picked up at the World Cup.

report that Davies picked up a stomach injury in Wales’ final game of the World Cup, last week’s 3-0 defeat to England.

They report that the recovery time for the oblique injury is around a month, which may mean that Davies has played his last game of 2022.

Spurs return to Premier League action against Bournemouth on Boxing Day and Davies is now an injury doubt for that game as it stands.

That lingering impact of the World Cup adds to the hangover from a tournament which did not go to plan for either Davies or Wales.

They were eliminated at the earliest possible opportunity, with just one point and one goal to their name, having conceded six.

Conte said last summer that Davies had an ‘amazing’ first season under him, but it has been reported that the Italian is looking for an upgrade.

Gary Neville said the Wales defence, containing Davies and Spurs teammate Joe Rodon just was not good enough at the World Cup.

On , Neville criticised the performances of the Welsh defence, especially in the 2-0 defeat against Iran, which proved crucial.

He said of Wales: “The back players are not good enough. We saw that against Iran. I’ve never seen a back three get pulled around so much.

“That’s why Rob Page went with a back four against England. The back three against Iran were getting pulled from pillar to post, crossing over all the time.”
