Report: ‘Amazing’ 23-year-old is now expected to leave Tottenham with a number of clubs interested
23-year-old defender Emerson Royal is now expected to leave Tottenham Hotspur after just one season at the club.
report that the man signed by Nuno Espirito Santo is set for a rapid departure as Antonio Conte reshapes his squad.
Djed Spence is the man Conte wants to replace Royal in that right wing-back role as he prepares for Champions League football next term.
A host of Spanish clubs are looking to offer Emerson a return to La Liga one year after he departed Barcelona to play in the Premier League.

The report reads: “Football.london understands that Spurs are one of the front runners for Spence’s signature but face competition from Borussia Dortmund, Roma, Newcastle, Brentford and Nottingham Forest to sign the England U21 international in the coming weeks.
“Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici has scouted Spence in person this season.
“With Emerson Royal expected to leave the club, with a number of La Liga clubs monitoring the Brazilian’s situation, the plan would be to use Spence in tandem with the experienced Republic of Ireland international Matt Doherty in the wing-back role next season.“
By hiring Conte, Daniel Levy rapidly set about undoing the mistake he made in hiring Nuno, and now he is having to reverse the mistakes the Portuguese manager made in the transfer market.
Spurs have a huge opportunity with Conte but they have to give him the players he wants, and just as importantly, get rid of the ones he does not.
Royal was described as ‘amazing‘ by Graham Roberts after October’s win over Aston Villa, but Royal has not shown that level of performance often enough.
He has lacked consistency, or the attacking quality to bomb forward and deliver pinpoint crosses, and it is to be hoped that Spence can be secured as an upgrade.
