Moving fringe players on may be the order of the day for Arsenal but Alex Runarsson has accepted that he is set to stay, .
Runarsson’s spell, unfortunately, has the potential to go down in folklore. The 26-year-old was signed in the wake of Emi Martinez’s move away from the Emirates.
And it quickly became apparent that the 26-year-old was not the man to provide Bernd Leno with the cover and competition that he needed.
He made some costly mistakes when he did get opportunities.
His last start came in the 4-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Carabao Cup in December 2020.
In truth, it appeared that the writing was on the wall for the Iceland international long before the Gunners brought Aaron Ramsdale in this summer.

It had appeared that Arsenal may be able to offload Runarsson in some capacity. Altay SK had been linked with taking the stopper on loan.
However, that move ultimately fell through. that he is resigned to staying.
Hugely frustrating for Arsenal to not find new home for Runarsson
Arsenal would have known that attracting a permanent buyer for Runarsson was always going to be difficult.
In many ways, a loan may have been perfect. The Gunners would have offloaded at least some of . And Runarsson could have secured a fresh start to prove himself.
That could have paved the way for a permanent exit further down the line.
Now however, he looks set to stay.
It is not a game-changing blow for Arsenal. But it is certainly incredibly frustrating.
