Report: Ajax and PSV join Newcastle in battle for Everton starlet Lewis Gibson
Two new clubs have joined Newcastle United in the hunt to sign Lewis Gibson from Everton, .
Gibson is now on the radar of Dutch pair Ajax and PSV Eindhoven. Both clubs have been alerted to his contract situation and could start negotiations ahead of a potential pre-contract agreement.
The left-footed centre-back, who can also play at left-back, is out of contract next summer. So far, there has been no progress on talks of a new deal. This has prompted Newcastle to explore the possibility of bringing him back to St James’ Park.

Gibson previously played for Newcastle’s academy but joined Everton in 2017. The 19-year-old has been a regular for David Unsworth’s U23 side but is yet to make his senior Toffees debut.
Ajax and PSV have an advantage in this pursuit as Gibson’s agent is based in the Netherlands. This could work in their favour for any potential negotiations, while Newcastle will be hoping to lure him back to his former club.
TBR’s view
Gibson will not be short of options next summer if he chooses to leave Everton. Given that the path to the first-team is quite crowded at Goodison Park, he might be better off moving elsewhere.
The talented teenager could benefit from Ajax and PSV’s policy of promoting youth into the first-team. Alternatively, he could return to his old club and help shore up the defence at Newcastle.
