Report: Aberdeen waiting to find out if Leeds United will loan Ryan Edmondson back out this month

Aberdeen are waiting on Leeds United to potentially rubberstamp an extension to Ryan Edmondson’s loan spell at Pittodrie.

That is according to a They suggest that the Scottish top-flight side are keen for Edmondson to remain a Don until the end of the current season. However, despite reaching out to Leeds to enquire as to this possibility, they are still waiting to find out.

It backs up a tweet from in which he stated that Leeds were yet to decide on whether Edmondson would be continuing with Aberdeen or not.

Edmondson arrived at Aberdeen at the start of the season having failed to find himself playing regular football since his move to Leeds United.

The England youth international’s time at Pittodrie looked set to be truncated before he made a faster than anticipated return from an ankle injury suffered in August.

The 19-year-old has since scored just twice in 15 games for his loan club, both of those goals coming in the same game back in October.

Clearly however he has impressed at Aberdeen and they will certainly get more use from him than Leeds.

Last January, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa admitted he had his eye on Edmondson but also made it clear that the teenager has ‘limits’ to his game at present.

“Of course, he has limits and he recognises them,” Bielsa was. “Maybe Edmondson is the best goalscorer on the team and he should play instead of Bamford and I am wrong?

“But what everybody has to know, and no doubt, everything Edmondson does in training and matches, I am looking at it.”

Leeds went on to sign both Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt over the summer, both of whom would have been expected to usurp Edmondson in the under-23 pecking order.

It seems unlikely that Leeds are considering a recall for Edmondson. What is more plausible is that Edmondson will have interest from other potential loan destinations, which Leeds are now weighing up.

Wherever he does end up for the rest of the season Leeds fans will be hoping he can start finding the net with a little more regularity.
