Report: £300k-a-week superstar’s agents talking up prospective Newcastle move

Edinson Cavani’s representatives are ‘talking up’ a potential move to Newcastle United as the Paris Saint-Germain forward looks set for a new footballing adventure, according to .

PCP Capital Partners, headed by Amanda Staveley, are on the verge of a £300million takeover of Newcastle, which is being backed by the Saudi Arabian royal family’s Public Investment Fund, and the prospective new owners are expected to have major ambitions upon arriving at St. James’ Park.

reported last month that Cavani, as well as Napoli ace Dries Mertens and Chelsea midfielder Willian, were being sought after by the potential new arrivals at Newcastle as they seek to make their mark on the club.

Cavani, who has claimed from 301 PSG games, will be a free agent in the summer and is considering his next move, with the claiming the Uruguayan has had offers from the Premier League, the MLS and Serie A.

now claims that the forward’s camp have “actively talked up a link” with the Magpies but, ultimately, it “depends on the project” and those close to Cavani believe it is “important to have that freedom to decide where we want to go”.

TBR View:

Newcastle are very much the talk of the football world at present, given their seemingly imminent – and potentially very lucrative – takeover, and Cavani would be a superb statement of intent by the newly-wealthy Magpies.

Although Cavani would not command a transfer fee, the 33-year-old’s salary demands – claims he earns £300,000-a-week – could well make him one of the best-paid players in the Premier League – so there would be a lot in it for club and player alike.
