Report: 28-year-old actually almost left this Liverpool summer… but there was one big problem

Loris Karius almost left Liverpool this summer, but his wage demands ultimately put Basel off completing a transfer, .
Almost exiting
Basel apparently made a permanent offer for Karius and Liverpool gave the Swiss club permission to speak to their back-up goalkeeper, but no move materialised.
That is because Karius simply wanted too much money to move.
The 28-year-old is reportedly only willing to take a small pay cut from the wages that he is on at Liverpool, which makes finding a suitor difficult.
Basel did return to try and sign Karius on loan, but that move also didn’t work out.
Out in the cold
The German now faces spending the next few months of the season out in the cold.

His prospects of playing for Liverpool any time soon look very slim, given that he appears to be fourth choice at Anfield now.
Liverpool have arranged loan moves for him across the last two season and may do so again in January, but that is not possible currently.
Liverpool apparently don’t begrudge Karius of sticking around and not taking a wage cut, as they realise he is under no obligation to do so.
But getting his salary off the books would surely be a help for Liverpool in the future, as he is a player who appears to have no future under Jurgen Klopp.
