Report: 26-year-old ‘tells friends’ he will join Mourinho, despite Tottenham links

that Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch has ‘told friends’ that he will be joining Jose Mourinho’s Roma. That is, despite reports suggesting that Tottenham Hotspur want to sign the Austrian.

Grillitsch, 26, has been a mainstay in Hoffenheim’s side over the last four years – clocking up 145 appearances. Not only does he remain crucial to Hoffenheim, but he has become a regular for Austria, earning 33 caps.

But the midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season. Even though Hoffenheim will be desperate to keep him, it is clear that Grillitsch is keen on a move. It is claimed that Tottenham have asked Hoffenheim about his availability.

, as per , reporter Marc Behrenbeck stated that Grillitsch is more than likely to leave. But new reports say Grillitsch has told those close to him he is ‘convinced’ he will be joining Roma.

Grillitsch to Roma: Will Tottenham regret not landing Austrian?

Tottenham do need midfield additions. Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system requires hard-working, tough-tackling, defensively intelligent midfielders. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp are currently first choice at Spurs.

Harry Winks was expected to go but after his display in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool, Antonio Conte might have decided to keep the England international. But there is a lack of depth in the middle of the park.

While Grillitsch might not have been good enough to start for Spurs, he would have provided some much-needed cover in midfield. On a free transfer, he would be a brilliant signing.
