Report: £25.7m Tottenham man with 4G/1A this season reportedly ‘very close’ to club exit

Erik Lamela is reportedly ‘very close’ to returning to Italy after nearly eight years in north London with Tottenham.

, Lamela’s entourage have been in contact with several clubs in Italy over the past few weeks, with the 29-year-old attacker being courted by Napoli as well as AC Milan, though, with the player himself keen to return to his former club AS Roma, though Gennaro Gattuso’s side appear to be the favourites for the attacker’s signature.

Lamela’s current deal with Tottenham expires in just under 18 months time, and although the Argentine international bagged a memorable goal in the North London Derby last month, his numbers this season have been far from impressive, with the winger scoring just four goals and assisting another in 31 appearances this campaign in all competitions.

This is not the first time Lamela has been linked with a move from Tottenham this season, with that Bologna are also interested in the Spurs attacker, who joined the north London side in the summer of 2013 for a reported transfer fee of £25.7m .

Expectations have always been high for Lamela ever since his big-money move to Tottenham eight years ago, yet even after playing over 250 games for the club, it still feels like the Argentinian international’s time in the Premier League was one that could have been much better.

Lamela will always be loved by Spurs fans for his never-say-die attitude and outrageous goals over the years for the club, but at 29 and his current deal set to expire in 2022, now would be an ideal time for both player and team to go their separate ways in the summer transfer window, and with multiple clubs interested in the South American attacker, Tottenham could be in a position to recoup some money for the winger.
