Report: £22m player flying back to Tottenham today, he may not be fit for Brentford game

Tottenham forward Son Heung-min is set to return to London today after captaining South Korea at the World Cup.

report that Son has been in his native country since their elimination at the last 16 stage at the hands of Brazil.

But the man is now set to go back to Spurs and try and get ready to resume the Premier League season later this month.

The report does state that Son may not be fit for that first game back against Brentford on Boxing Day as he continues to battle with the injury which threatened his World Cup involvement.

Son set to return to London

Son played at the tournament with a face mask on having done all he could to be fit to lead his country out in Qatar.

The report suggests that might have impacted his involvement for Spurs after the break as the frantic festive period looms into view.

There will also be the challenge for Premier League clubs of helping their players get over the potential disappointment of their eliminations.

For Spurs, Harry Kane will be the most notable example after his penalty miss in England’s 2-1 quarter-final defeat at the hands of France.

This is a unique challenge for top flight managers after the unprecedented mid-season major tournament break and plenty in the Premier League may rest on who deals with it best.

Spurs will hope Son is fit to face Brentford and does not suffer any lingering effects of his injury but it remains to be seen how long it is before he is fully fit.
