Celtic have reportedly held talks with Giorgos Giakoumakis, according to the .
The striker apparently liked his conversation with Ange Postecoglou and the prospect of joining the Hoops.
Giakoumakis and Postecoglou are yet to meet in person, added the report.
And Celtic may now have an additional challenge on their hands of they want to sign Giakoumakis.
That’s because Werder Bremen have reportedly matched the Bhoys’ offer for the 26-goal ace.
The claims the German second-tier side held a face-to-face meeting with Giakoumakis in Germany on Wednesday.
Although Celtic are in the Europa League, Bremen have reportedly proposed a superior financial package to the Hoops.
Celtic and Bremen’s agreement on Giakoumakis’ transfer fee is also understood to include a clause entitling VVV-Venlo to a significant percentage of the player’s next move.
His former club AEK Athens are reportedly due to take a percentage of the Dutch club’s asking price, around £2.2million.
VVV general manager Marco Bogers has addressed Celtic and Bremen’s interest, as quoted by the .
“Celtic and Werder Bremen have officially approached us,” he said.
“But there are more clubs now showing interest, so the game isn’t over yet.
“We expect even more clubs to be in touch.
“It must be a good deal for all parties. Everyone must benefit from it.
“Georgios must have the right feeling about the club and we do have a price in mind that must be put on the table.”
Giakoumakis was the top scorer in the Eredivisie last season with 26 goals, despite his club’s relegation.
He registered in all competitions last term.
