Report: £100,000-a-week Arsenal star set to join new club within days; manager is waiting for him

Granit Xhaka is close to joining AS Roma with the midfielder now expected to join up with the Italian side next week.

According to Sky Italia , the Arsenal star will sign for the Serie A side next week before they arrive in Portugal for pre-season. Moreover, as per the report, Jose Mourinho is ‘waiting for him’.

Roma have been keen on a move for Xhaka for the majority of the summer window.

Personal terms have been agreed, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. However, the Italian side are struggling to agree on a transfer fee with Arsenal.

The Gunners are looking for around £17.5m for the midfielder. And it appears that this is a fee that Roma are not willing to match.

Xhaka, who earns £100,000-a-week as show, was one of the players of Euro 2020. However, it is unlikely his performances for Switzerland have impacted Arsenal’s valuation of the midfielder.

Indeed, whilst Arsenal did sign Xhaka for a reported £35m according to BBC Sport, there was never any hope that the Gunners would break even on the former Borussia Monchengladbach star.

With the midfielder not in Mikel Arteta’s long-term plans for the club, selling Xhaka will be key for the Arsenal boss. And real progress appears to be happening as we approach the end of July.
