Replacing Steve Bruce with Mick McCarthy would be a sideways step for Aston Villa

Mick McCarthy has expressed his interest in managing Aston Villa after the vacancy popped up.

, McCarthy has put his name in the hat to replace Steve Bruce at Aston Villa.

The Villans have had a poor start to the season considering the talent in their squad and Bruce has been sacked.

Aston Villa are now hunting for a new manager and McCarthy has put himself forward.

The experienced Championship manager was most recently at Ipswich Town, where he delivered season after season of mid-table finishes.

This would be a safe option for Aston Villa and surely something that fans will not need.

It would be sideways step. They would be replacing Bruce with a similar manager.

Considering the West Midlands outfit have loads of talented players, Aston Villa need an exciting manager to use these stars.

Bruce’s style of football was simplistic and his refusal to play his men in their preferred positions was baffling.

McCarthy would be too similar. Flair players like Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie would be sidelined in favour of a more steady and safe player.

Aston Villa need someone with fresh ideas and someone exciting.

Thierry Henry would be a risk but fans would get behind him. Dean Smith, a local lad, would also be a fantastic appointment.

Even John Terry could be an interesting shout. But bringing in McCarthy would show a lack of desire to improve.
