Reoprt: Newcastle considered free agent, following Celtic release

on their deadline-day blog (Tuesday, 12:18PM) that Newcastle considered a move for Olivier Ntcham, after his Celtic release.

Ntcham, 25, is set to complete a move to Swansea City in the English Championship. say he was undergoing a medical earlier today.

However, the France Under-21 star could have been playing in the Premier League – had Newcastle acted on their interest this summer.

The report claims the Tyneside club considered a move for the ex-Manchester City ace – who won three Scottish Premiership titles at Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers got the best out of him – but he has since struggled under Neil Lennon. On August 1, he was released by Celtic.

Ntcham joining Swansea: Newcastle miss a trick in Celtic departure?

Not really. Ntcham is an incredibly-talented player. Porto at one point were keen and eventually went on loan to Marseille while at Celtic.

He produced 37 goal involvements in 147 games for Celtic. But his attitude is questionable, with work rate towards the end of his stay – non-existent.

So, while he is an technically-gifted player with good passing and can score goals or create – he lacks the work rate needed for a Premier League side.

Especially a relegation-threatened side in the top tier of English football. Ntcham is now set for Swansea, Newcastle choosing not to sign him.
