‘Reminds me of Gilberto Silva’: Some Arsenal fans proud to have ‘incredible’ player in their ranks
A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to laud Pablo Mari’s impressive display against Chelsea on Wednesday night.
Mikel Arteta’s charges ran out 1-0 winners over their London rivals, with Emile Smith Rowe netting in the 16th minute of the match.
Arsenal’s winner came about thanks to a mistake from Jorginho, who misjudged a back pass and nearly sent it into the open goal.

Kepa Arrizabalaga did well to keep it out, but the ball fell to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who teed up Smith Rowe for a simple finish.
Arsenal were under the cosh for much of the game, but Mari was impressive for the most part.
Admittely, an early lapse in concentration from the 27-year-old nearly gifted a goal to Kai Havertz, but nothing came of it.
From then on, Mari was solid in the back three, and he certainly deserves credit for not fouling Havertz when he was through on goal.
Here’s what some Arsenal fans said about the Spaniard’s display at Stamford Bridge:
1 of the things I really like about Mari there. Marks a man rather than a space. Makes sure giroud doesn’t win the header, doesn’t matter if he doesn’t win the header, just make sure his man doesn’t win it.

Mari is an extremely underrated player. He reminds me of Gilberto Silva, does his job diligently and quietly.

tweeted this during the match. He seems like a really underrated signing. We used to have a lot of CB issues but I like the fact that we have Mari, Holding and Gabriel. Just need Saliba to be integrated to this.

Pablo Mari and Thomas Partey have been incredible tonight

One player that played really really well today, but wont get the respect is Mari. Did everything he had to, and did it brilliantly.

I cannot stress this enough.
The most important moment in that game was Pablo Mari not fouling Havertz when he was through on goal.
So many times this season, other players have got that exact decision wrong and cost us games.

I really like Pablo Mari. I know he’s had a couple of shaky games lately, but he’s smart and calm. So many of our defenders would’ve lost their heads and fouled Havertz. He didn’t. Arsenal don’t win that game if he brings Havertz down and gets himself sent off.
