‘Remember Ronaldo’… Robbie Savage says Man Utd have a player who could explode like CR7 did
Antony didn’t have the best year at Manchester United.
The Brazilian scored just one Premier League goal in all of 2023, and his recent performances have been nothing short of dire.
The man has become scapegoat number one at Old Trafford, and it’s fair to say the fanbase are getting pretty fed up of him.
However, speaking on , Robbie Savage has remained positive about the winger’s potential, claiming that he will develop once he has settled at the club, comparing his situation to Cristiano Ronaldo’s all those years ago.

Antony will improve like Ronaldo did
Savage shared his verdict on the winger when discussing his situation with a caller.
“Antony is a young man, I’m just saying that he will develop, but do you get time to develop at Manchester United if your numbers, your goals and assists output for someone who cost £85m, has it been good enough? The answer is no,” Savage said.
“Yeah, but he should be developed by now surely,” The caller asked.
“No but, do you remember Ronaldo? Remember Ronaldo when he first came to United?” Savage said.
“You can’t put him in the same bracket as Ronaldo,” The caller said.
“I’m not, but listen to what I’m saying, it’s a young player at one of the biggest clubs in the world and people take time to settle, right now he’s not been good enough for Manchester United, I totally agree with you,” Savage said.
Different situation
As much as we’d love to buy into the idea that Antony could go through this Ronaldo-esque transformation, it’s hard to agree here.
Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t the player he would become when he first arrived at Old Trafford, but he was 18 years old and he still looked incredibly bright.
Antony is meant to be the finished product, he’s 23 years old now, he cost £85m, and he’d worked with the manager for years beforehand.
Ronaldo and Antony’s situations are completely different, and the fact of the matter is that Antony should be settled already after 18 months in Manchester.
