Reliable ace has flown under the radar during Newcastle’s successful survival
Newcastle United will officially be playing Premier League football again next season following Cardiff City’s failure to beat Liverpool on Sunday.
The Magpies gave themselves a great chance by beating Southampton 3-1 at St. James’ Park on Saturday, and there was cause for celebration after the Bluebirds were then unable to defeat the title-chasing Reds the following day.

It’s been a great effort from Rafa Benitez’s team in recent weeks to get up and beyond the 40 point mark with games to spare.
The likes of Salomon Rondon, Ayoze Perez and new signing Miguel Almiron have all been putting in some big performances.
Fabian Schar has continued to gain plaudits for his contributions at the back, but one man who seems to have flown under the radar during Newcastle’s successful navigation towards safety, is Paul Dummett.
TBR’s view
The Welshman is by no means a stylish or technically gifted footballer with quick feet, but one thing he definitely is is reliable.
Dummett is a trustworthy professional who quietly carries out what is expected of him.
Often he is overlooked when Newcastle win, and sometimes he is unfairly criticised when the team play poorly as a collective.

In the second half of the season Dummett – who earned £35,000-a-week – has had to play as a left centre-back and has done that superbly to his credit.
He has looked as solid as any one of Schar, Jamaal Lascelles or Florian Lejeune, and Newcastle fans will hope to see him play up to his role of ‘Mr. Reliable’ as the season draws to a close.
