Released in July, former Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles’ time in Spain has been a mixed bag
Everton released back-up goalkeeper Joel Robles this summer, with the Spaniard departing for Real Betis on a free transfer.
After leaving Goodison Park for consistent first team football, Robles has struggled to assert himself as Betis’ number one despite some impressive performances.
The goalkeeper has played five times for Betis in all competitions this campaign, with two La Liga and Europa League matches each and a Copa del Rey fixture under his belt.
In the limited playing time he has been given, Robles has been a steady presence between the sticks, keeping four clean sheets in his five matches.
All together, the former Everton man has conceded just twice in 450 minutes of action for Betis — an excellent ratio of minutes played to goals allowed.
Back at Goodison Park, the Toffees won’t be regretting their decision to allow Robles to leave in July, as Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has established himself as England’s number one in authoritative fashion.
Yet Robles has played in European action for his new club and kept clean sheets in all but one of his appearances to date, a productive start to life in Seville.
In all, it appears Joel Robles’ move away from Everton has been reasonably justified to date, with the goalkeeper enjoying limited success in his few appearances for Real Betis.
