Release Lee Wallace and Gareth McAuley: What should Rangers do with their out-of-contract players?

With the end of the season approaching, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has some decisions to make.

Two of his players are out of contract at the end of the season, while four others are on loan until the end of this campaign. Here are the six players in question and what Gerrard should do with them.

Veteran duo Lee Wallace and Gareth McAuley are out of contract and should be let go. Left-back Wallace has only played twice under Gerrard and is out of favour.

Northern Ireland international McAuley will turn 40 next season and has only featured 10 times for Rangers in an injury-hit campaign.

On loan from Angers, Lassana Coulibaly started the season as a regular but he has lost his place in recent weeks. The 22-year-old has played 30 games for the Gers but is now behind Glen Kamara in the pecking order and is unlikely to earn a permanent stay at Ibrox.

Try to sign: Ryan Kent and Joe Worrall

Ryan Kent is on loan from Liverpool and has been impressing Gerrard and Rangers fans. The 22-year-old is a regular on the wing and the competitiveness at Liverpool gives Rangers hope of a permanent deal or a loan extension.

Joe Worrall is on loan from Nottingham Forest and he has been getting better with each game. But whether Forest will let the 22-year-old centre-back join Rangers again remains to be seen.

To be decided: Steven Davis

Rangers signed Southampton midfielder Steven Davis in January on loan until the end of the season. And the idea was that the Northern Ireland international would join permanently when he becomes a free agent in the summer.

But so far, the 34-year-old’s return to Ibrox has been underwhelming. He turns 35 next season and Gerrard might decide to look at other options instead.
