‘Red flag’, ‘Embarrassing’: These Celtic fans react to latest Eddie Howe claim

For weeks now it’s been considered a case of when, not if, Eddie Howe will take the reins at Celtic Park.

The former Bournemouth man appeared to have become the club’s first choice, in a decision that was overwhelmingly backed by Celtic supporters.

The likes of Rafa Benitez, Enzo Maresca, Steve Clare and Roy Keane had all been mentioned in connection with the vacancy, but the Englishman’s appointment was expected to be confirmed at some point this week.

Now, however, there may be a twist.

On Wednesday night, the Daily Mail’s chief football reporter : “Re: Eddie Howe’s move to Celtic. A representative for Howe said: ‘There has been significant interest in Eddie from a number of clubs. However, talks of any deal being close are extremely premature. His plan remains to not return to management until the summer at the earliest.’”

Understandably, that quote hasn’t gone down well with the Celtic fans below.

John Kennedy remains in charge on an interim basis, and will commence his side’s post-split fixtures on Saturday when Celtic play host to Livingston.

Of far greater significance, though, will be the Scottish Cup fourth round tie against Rangers at Ibrox the following weekend.
