‘Reborn this season’: West Ham fans react to Aaron Cresswell’s comments

West Ham star Aaron Cresswell has claimed he’s enjoying playing in a centre-back position this season – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have responded by praising him for his high level performances.

Cresswell, 30, has been a conventional left-back during most of his career and he is a long-serving Hammers player after joining back in 2014.

With manager David Moyes preferring a 3-4-3 formation this season, the English defender has taken up a position as the left-sided centre-back and he’s played every single minute in the Premier League so far.

The experienced left-footer looks right at home as part of a back three and he’s been delivering such great consistent defensive performances.

Cresswell has admitted that his new position massively suits his game, especially as he’s got rapid teammate Arthur Masuaku playing just in front of him as a left wing-back.

“I love it [playing centre-back in a back three]. I played it when the gaffer first came in two-and-a-half years ago. We were a bit short on defenders at the time and the gaffer asked if I’d ever played there,”

“I told him ‘no, I’ve never played there’, but it managed to work for us. He kept us up and we played some good stuff. I think I’ve played 22 games on the left side of a three.

“It’s a position I love and with Arthur, who’s on the left hand side as a wing-back, I think that suits his game even more. He likes to get the ball and carry it and he’s a very direct player. It’s working well for us at the minute.”
