‘Really happy’… Arsenal target says he will not join Newcastle in January
Ruben Neves has outlined his plans amid interest from Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder has said how he really feels about playing for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
So, what has Ruben Neves said about his future amid interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United? Let’s take a look.
Arsenal target Ruben Neves responds to Newcastle United interest
Well, Ruben Neves has publicly said that he does not plan to leave Al-Hilal in the January transfer window. The Portugal international defensive midfielder has said that he is very happy at the Saudi Pro League club.
Neves joined Al-Hilal from Wolves in the summer of 2023. It came as a surprise. After all, the midfielder is only 26 and was one of the best players in his position in the Premier League.
Newcastle United and Arsenal have been strongly linked with moves for Neves in the January transfer window.
reported in November that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta personally wants Neves at the Emirates Stadium.

It was also that claimed that Newcastle have already made a “proposal” to Neves. Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) owns the Magpies as well as Al-Hilal.
even reported that Newcastle could bring the midfielder to St. James’ Park on a permanent contract instead of on a loan deal.
As you can see below, Neves has directly responded to interest from Newcastle, saying that he is not leaving.
The Portuguese star has noted that the Magpies were interested in him before.
Neves told : “I don’t go. I think that’s rumours because of the owner of the clubs of course, and because I’ve played in England as well.
“There was Newcastle interest before I came here but I’m really happy here, my family’s really happy, so I’m having a great time.”
The midfielder added: “Everything is going really well for me and I want to stay here.”
Never say never
Just because Ruben Neves has publicly said that he is happy at Al-Hilal does not mean that a potential transfer to Newcastle United or Arsenal could not happen.
In football, anything is possible. How many of us really expected Cristiano Ronaldo to go to Saudi Arabia?
I do not think that Al-Hilal will want to part company with Neves just months after signing him. Moreover, the midfielder is on a massive salary.
According to , Neves earns £410,000 per week, while estimates his wages are over £300,000 per week untaxed. However, you never know how Al-Hilal would react if Newcastle and/or Arsenal made really good offers.
