‘Really good stuff’: Ian Wright names two Everton players improving under Carlo Ancelotti

Everton duo Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate have been praised by Ian Wright following their impressive performances for Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees at the weekend.

The Blues ran out 2-1 winners over Arsenal at Goodison Park, with Rob Holding’s own goal putting the hosts ahead on 22 minutes.

Though Nicolas Pepe equalised from the penalty spot, Yerry Mina’s header from Gylfi Sigurdsson’s corner on the stroke of half time proved the difference.

Godfrey has done superbly in the left-back role over the past few games and was in especially inspired form against Arsenal, both in defence and in attack.

Likewise, Holgate put in an efficient and error-free display, occasionally venturing forward to provide support to Alex Iwobi.

And Wright, analysing the game and Carlo Ancelotti’s impact at Everton on , singled Godfrey and Holgate out for praise.

“He is improving the players,” he said after the game.

“You look at Godfrey playing at left-back, he has done some really good stuff today. Holgate as well, playing at right-back.

“They played a different kind of way today, they let Arsenal have the ball. He’s an astute manager, very clever.

“You have to give credit, with the players that are missing, for him to get nine points out of the week is fantastic for Everton.”

Ancelotti has done a superb job at Everton this season and, though it’s not been plain sailing all the way, most fans will be delighted with fourth in the table and one point off second at Christmas.

And Wright is spot on with how the Italian, as well as getting great results, is also improving the players, with Godfrey and Holgate just two who are thriving under his coaching.
