‘Really good’… Mikel Arteta says two Arsenal players have formed a brilliant partnership this season

Mikel Arteta has lauded two Arsenal players and claims the duo have formed a brilliant partnership this season.

After a difficult trip to Manchester City over the weekend, Arsenal face a crucial home game against Luton Town tomorrow evening.

The Gunners put in a resolute defensive performance at the Etihad Stadium and became the first side in 57 games to prevent Pep Guardiola’s side from scoring at home.

Much of that was down to the way Mikel Arteta set his side up but there were a few star performers on the day.

Indeed, William Saliba scooped the Man of the Match award after the goalless draw and Gabriel Magalhaes also received praise from Gary Neville during the game.

The duo have impressed this season and based on Arsenal’s defensive record, they have arguably been the best centre-back duo in the Premier League.

Now, Arteta has lauded both Saliba and Gabriel following another impressive defensive display at City.

Arteta on Saliba and Gabriel partnership

Speaking to the media ahead of tomorrow night’s game against Luton, Arteta praised his centre-back duo and commented on their partnership.

“Sometimes there is that chemistry between the two players to work with each other and it just flows. I think they’ve been really good,” the Gunners boss told

Arsenal’s defensive record in the Premier League this season

Arsenal currently lead the way when it comes to clean sheets in the Premier League this season.

With Saliba and Gabriel at centre-back, the Gunners have recorded a total of 12.

Arteta’s men have also conceded just 24 goals in 29 league games this season, which is the best record in the league.

While Ben White has also been ever-present at right-back, much of Arsenal’s brilliant defensive work is down to their centre-back partnership.

Ever since Saliba came into the starting lineup last term, he and Gabriel have struck up a brilliant understanding.
