‘Really disappointing’: Rangers left reeling by ‘sickening’ news pre-Lyon

Glasgow Rangers have been left reeling by the news that Ibrox defender Filip Helander will be out until the end of the year.

The Gers centre-back suffered a knee injury on Saturday, for which he has undergone surgery.

Helander had to be taken off on a stretcher in the Scottish Premiership victory at St Johnstone.

“Rangers can confirm that defender Fil Helander will be missing until December after knee surgery,” the club wrote on .

“We wish him well in his recovery.”

Rangers fans were disconsolate:

Not only will Rangers be without one of their top centre-backs for a while, but it’s bad news for Sweden too.

Helander is becoming a crucial player for his nation and played in their last two competitive games.

Sweden have four big World Cup qualifiers left against Kosovo, Greece, Georgia and Spain over the next two months.

Helander will sadly miss them all, much to head coach Andersson’s dismay.

“It’s really disappointing for us, but above all, it’s really sad for Filip,” the quotes him as saying.

“My hope is that his rehabilitation goes well and he’s back in action as soon as possible.”

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is likely to deploy Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun in defence as they welcome Lyon to Ibrox tonight.
